Hey there friends, my name is Rachel Garant, also known as The Second Hand Stylist! I’m currently working on styling the fall photoshoot for Women’s Collective Box, curating a collection of clothing just as unique as the women who will be wearing them. Though these collections are special, my go-to items when styling a shoot are timeless staples that create a cohesive look among all the women and really allow the box to shine.
I was so excited when Rashelle asked me to write a guest blog, sharing tips for updating your fall wardrobe. So, as the leaves begin to turn, and you’re getting ready to change out your summer tanks for cozy sweaters, I want to share a list of staple pieces that might feel basic, but can really enhance your wardrobe this fall.
Fun fact - most pieces you’re about to see are second hand!

Denim Jacket

THE staple of all staple pieces, the classic denim jacket. Timeless, stylish, and perfect for layering, I highly recommend adding one to your fall wardrobe. The best part, they are timeless and built to last. I found this Levi jacket on Poshmark, but also have a vintage Levi jacket passed down from my dad.

A Fun Blouse

You should have a few comfortable blouses that can transition from work to play. Search for fall shades such as saffron, olive, or merlot. For a pulled-together look, try tucking the blouse into jeans and pair with accessories, like these Made by Maeberry earrings from the first Women’s Collective Box!

Flowy Midi Dress

Though this may feel more like a summer staple, they are quite easy to transition from season to season. Select a dress in a fall color and pair with a jacket and boots. Or, try adding a long sleeve top under a dress to extend its seasonal lifespan.

A Unique Hat

I love a good hat, as they can easily pull a look together. Not only are they stylish, but they are functional helping shield you from the sun and rain (can you tell it’s sprinkling in these pics?). I’ve had a lot of good luck finding hats second hand, but also LOVE the classic styles Gigi Pipi hats, check them outHERE

Classic Crewneck Sweater

A good sweater is lightweight, cozy, and versatile. Yet, I always opt for a sweater with a bit of flair, like these bell-sleeves! If you’re looking to add more sweaters to your wardrobe this season tryThredUP, they have a great selection at all price points.

Classic Bag

I love a bag that’s big enough to hold all my things but doesn’t overpower the outfit. This brown vintage bag is my go-to for fall and versatile enough to go with just about any outfit.

Wide-Leg Pants

Along with skinny jeans, these are a must-have for fall. Fitted through the top, slightly cropped, with a small flare at the bottom, this style is flattering for all body types! Pair with your fun blouse and a hat.

Everyday Boots

For comfort and style, reach for a pair of classic black booties. They go with just about EVERYTHING and will never go out of style. It can be a bit challenging finding shoes second hand, so I usually opt for a local consignment store or boutique.
